Burn Time:
4oz - 25 - 30 hours
8oz - 50 - 60 hours
16oz - 60+ hours
Longer Lasting: Out of the natural candle waxes available, poured (not rolled) beeswax burns the longest. Created by honey bees to build honeycomb cells in their beehives, beeswax is harder and denser than other types of candle wax and burns at a higher temperature, making it the perfect choice for longer-lasting candles. The higher melting point creates a candle that burns slower, lasts longer and burns more evenly. If comparing roughly 100g of wax, poured beeswax would take approximately 29 hours to burn while Soy would burn for 18 hours. Paraffin would burn for only 15 hours while rolled beeswax for 14 hours.
Purifying: Unlike paraffin candles – which release carcinogens like toluene and benzene into the air– beeswax can help to purify the air in your home. This incredibly versatile, natural resource releases negative ions into the air that binds to positively charged airborne particles such as dust and pollen, helping to neutralize pollutants and create a cleaner environment.
Wick Selection: The purpose of a wick is to deliver fuel (wax) to the flame. Acting like a fuel pump, the wick draws the liquefied wax up into the flame to burn. Different wick sizes allow for different amounts of fuel to be drawn into the flame. Too much fuel and the flame will flare and soot; too little fuel and the flame will sputter out. There are literally hundreds of different styles and sizes of wicks. The type of wax used in a candle, as well as the candle’s size, shape, color and fragrance materials all impact wick choice. Selecting the correct wick is critical to making a candle that burns cleanly and properly. We take great care in selecting a wick of the proper size, shape and material to meet the burn requirements of a particular candle. Beeswax in particular, requires a braided, not twisted, wick because of its high melting point to create a slow, even burn and wax pool. All of our beeswax candles are crafted with cotton, braided wicks.
Fragrance Ratio: Do you ever smell a candle in the store and fall in love with the scent only to find that when it burns you can no longer smell it? Or can only get a good smell with your nose within an inch of the flame? This happens for many reasons but most often because of the type of wax combined with the fragrance to wax ratio in the candle. The fragrance can be the most expensive cost component of candle making. For evenly burning and fragrance releasing candles, the fragrance to wax ratio must be at least 1:10. Each candle contains at least 10% of fragrance and will fill your space with a beautiful aroma for hours!
